We look at a
plant and sometimes we wonder how the flowers in it are so fragrant. Flowers
are the most beautiful and colourful part of a plant. We cannot see flowers in
all plants.
Plants that produce seeds have flowers Flowers
are the parts of the plant that are closely related to the formation and
production of seeds. In some grains, the immature spikes are also flowers.
Botanists refer to flowers as the part of a plant that can produce flowers,
seeds, or both.
We may wonder
how flowers got their fragrance. Some essential oils are contained in the
petals of flowers. The process of vaporizing that oil releases the aroma. Not
all flowers produce the same aroma, aromas vary from flower to flower Flowers
produce different aromas depending on the chemicals and various additives
contained in the volatile oil.
We should not
think that these oils are only found in the flowers of plants. Mostly they
contain bark, roots, fruits and oils. For example, oranges contain oil in fruits
like lemons etc.
These
aromatic oils are found in almonds, seeds, and cinnamon bark. The colour of the
flowers is purple and red and the pigment is called "anthocyanin".
The dyes dissolve in the sap in the pores of the flowers.
Other dyes
give colours like yellow, orange, and green. There is no chemical interaction
between these dyes and the colors are determined by the pigments in them.
Aromas from
Yellow Willow are very sweet and clear with cool and rustic aromas. Aromas from
Raspberry and Black Blackberry give us a hint of tartness and sweetness. The
fragrance that comes from the jasmine flower gives a pleasant smell. In this way,
the fragrance from each flower has its own characteristics.
The chemicals
and additives in it are responsible for this aroma. At the same time, when we
smell some flowers, we feel dizzy. Some flowers can be uplifting and some can
be irritating. The aromas that can come from flowers can control our minds and
create a pleasant feeling.
