Aquaculture - rearing fishes - Pisciculture

Aquaculture

Aquaculture is the rearing of aquatic organisms like fishes, prawns, shrimps, crabs, lobsters, edible oysters, pearl oysters and seaweeds under controlled and confined environmental conditions using advanced technologies.

Some other aquaculture types are used in the rearing process of seafood. Fresh water is also used for rearing some other fishes like carp, catfishes, and air-breathing fishes. The salinity of this water is less than 0.5 ppt. (ppt means parts per thousand). Freshwater culture of organisms is carried out in ponds, rivers, dams, lakes and cold water.

Saltwater is mostly used for the rearing or cultivation of aquatic organisms like shrimps, pearl oysters, edible oysters, mussels and fin fishes. This type of sea-forming salinity of water ranges from 30 to 35 ppt.

Some rare sea foods are cultivated from brackish water which means seawater and freshwater mix together. This type of cultivation is used to cultivate spiny lobsters, marine prawns and milk fishes. We maintained salinity is more than 1 and less than 32 ppt.

Pisciculture

Pisciculture is the process of breeding and rearing of fishes in ponds, reservoirs, lakes, rivers and paddy fields. It is cultivated in small and large areas of water. Fresh water and marine water cultivated fishes of many different types.

The pisciculture is needed for nutrition. These types of cultivated fishes are rich in amino acids such as lysine and methionine, and minerals like calcium.
